My 16 month old won't eat!!

My 16 month old is SOOOOOO dadgum picky!! It seems that all he will eat is Ritz crackers, spaghetti O's,bananas and anything sweet. This is not healthy for him. I have tried going to gerber.com and making my own menu for him but it seems like it's for the bigger kids even though it's in his age range. He wont eat big foods such as grilled cheese sandwiches, sandwiches, cheeseburgers or anything. Even if I cut it up.He just plays with it. I know it's natural for them to play with their food and that's cool. What isn't cool is that he won't eat. He won't try anything. I go to the store and go up and down every aisle and I can never come up with any meals or snacks for him. Any food ideas on what I can get for my son? I am desperately needing snack ideas with small foods and dinner and breakfast ideas.

Is he healthy, energetic, and gaining weight? If he is, I wouldn't stress over it too much. I'd feed him what the grownups are eating.

he is deffinately active and healthy. I try to feed him what we eat but he is so picky. he just wants to play with it unless it is a banana or cracker.

Don't worry about it then. Sit him at the table with you for meals, put regular grown-up food on his plate, and if he eats anything, it's good.
Only put a tiny bit on his plate--less than 1/4 cup total. If he eats that much, give him more.

My daughter feeds her 18 mo. old bagels with cream cheese cut up with the kitchen shears into bite-size pieces, string cheese (also cut up with the kitchen shears into little 1/4" slices), and fruit.

Thank you for your help! My son loves cheese too. I usually get the big blocks of cheese and cut a slice into small pieces. Haven't tried the cream cheese yet. Any more tips on food or snacks?

You can make food into a big issue. It's a bad idea.

My 14 1/2 month old grandson is now just too busy to eat much. He is still breastfed and according to the pediatrician, is getting all the nutrition he needs from that and the food he does eat. It is best to do as mayamay has suggested, offer him whatever they are eating at meals and give him a wide variety of snacks. He will eat when he is hungry and and as long as he is growing and developing, all is well.
