Food

My son is 8 months old and I am starting to feed him baby food meats, yuk!  I can't stand the smell of it and he yaks every time I try to feed it to him.  What are some tricks or other alternatives that you have done to get protein in your child's diet?

My kids didn't like babyfood much. And I can't blame them, it's pretty gross. I took real food and blended it up in a blender. You have to add water or broth to meats to make them blend up smoothly. My aunt taught me a trick about making my own babyfood. You can make a bunch at a time, put it into ice cube trays and freeze it, then store it in freezer bags and it's already in small serving sizes. Take a fruit or vegetable cube and a meat cube out of the freezer, heat them up and you're ready for dinner! =) Make sure you cook things well before you blend them, it makes it safer and easier. Good luck.

Maybe he's just not ready for meats yet. Also, does he have any reactions to other foods? My youngest son's problem was w/ dairy. We had to give it to him in small quantities or he'd poop it out. (Sorry, not trying to be gross). Also, in the beginning w/ solids, he wld stick his tounge out, refusing to eat anything. With him, I had to start w/ fruits, then vegies, then meats. Eventually he got over that phase, and now he eats fairly well. Keep trying different foods w/ different flavors. Maybe even mix some fruit in w/ the meats. In time I'm sure it'll get better. Good luck!

Babies and young children have extra taste buds and things can taste a lot different to them. He may not like the taste of them at the moment so don't force it. Vegetarians can be just as healthy as carnivores so don't worry. As long as he is getting foods from all the food groups then he will grow up just fine.

Have you tried tofu? I know some babies that really like them.
