Get togethers with friends and family, volunteer to help seniors or those less fortunate, go to a senior center or retirement home and adopt a grandparent, volunteer at an animal shelter, walks, hiking, biking, public basketball courts, 2 on 2 baseball, play board games, free museums, free community events (these can be found in the community calender of the newspaper), backyard or indoor campout, libraries offer free fun and educational programs, go on a picnic, meal planning and cooking, make holiday gifts and cards, make items to sell at craft shows or flea markets and/or start a small yard, dog walking or car washing service for the children to make spending money, find a self improvement or educational project you all can work on together.

You sound like a committed parent. Hope this helps!

Try your local public library. Take the kids to get library cards (its free and fun). Then let them check out some books and movies. Our local library let's you keep DVDs for 2 weeks, books 3 weeks. Our library also has a lot of events aimed for kids, from story days to puppet shows.

Taking them places is fun, but if money is an issue there are many things to do at home. The kids and I used to have paper airplane contests. We would build them, decorate them, and then see how far they could fly. We have made masks out of paper plates and rubber bands. We have camped in the living room. We used to play a game where we would lay flat on our backs, with our heads all together and one person starts with his idea, and the rest add to it. For example, one of our favorite trips was to the moon. One kid starts and we all take turns adding our ideas.
If you want to get out, parks are always great. When the weather was bad we would go to the mall and walk around. In some of the malls they have a play area for kids. It was always nice to sit and relax while watching them play. Most parents are there for the same reason, so there is usually conversation to be had.
