What to feed my seven year old boy the day before and morning of his meets. His last meet he was really hyper when we got there and by the time he got to his 1st match he was tired and still had two more to go! what can I do to help him?
Have him do a few minutes of meditation. It is what athletes do.
Sit straight but relaxed. Pay attention to your breathing. Pay attention to your heartbeat. Pay attention to your posture. See how your body feels. If there are any tight places, relax them.
When you are done, keep paying attention. If anything gets too excited, stop what you are doing and meditate for a little bit.
Sorry this didn't address the question of food. I don't know about that.
Between matches we would eat grapes and oranges. Sweet potatoes are one of the best foods you can eat, but can be filling right before a match, best eaten a few hours before, and only about half a cup. Sunflower seeds are great to snack on as well. One of the problems is making weight. If he is having problems making weight, and dieting before matches, that will greatly reduce his energy level. As for energy drinks, I wouldnt use them at all. I know they are popular these days, but I have two friends who have ended up in the ER with irregular heart beats. One had to be knocked out and shocked to get his heart back in to rythem. Also, water is so underrated, make sure your son is well hydrated.
