what exactly is this test? i looked it up but it seems like everyone says something diffrent. how is it done?
my last baby is nearly 11, but I remember that this test is done on everybody that is about to deliver a baby. They just swab your perineum (the divider between your anus and your vagina) and culture it. If the test is positive, they test the baby and give the baby antibiotics right after the birth. Strep B is a nasty disease, it can kill the baby, damage the brain, and about 1 out of 3 pregnant women carry it. about 1 out of 10 babies born to women who carry it catch it. about 1 out of 100 of those babies that get it die. It would be a lot higher if they didn't treat it.
