Discussion Title: Need Help!
Created by: darkladys Created on: Thu, 03/12/2009 - 7:34pm. My 23 month old daughter has never had a problem eating whatever I make for her. Heck nine times out of ten, she eats her own food and then some of mine or her daddy's. However, my husband is out of town for three weeks, he left yesterday, and since he left she refuses to eat anything at all. Not any of her favorite snacks, not any of my food, not her own food. I tried to take her temperature in case she was sick, but getting a rectal on her is impossible without someone to hold her down. Under her arm last night she did have a bit of temp. about 101.7. So I gave her some Tylenol and gave up on the trying to feed her. Instead I just gave her a cup. But I don't think she's sick because shortly after she got down from her high chair last night, she began begging for my food. I shared it with her but she basically just held it in her mouth and didn't swallow it. Today when I tried to feed her she did the same thing, just held the food in her mouth and didn't swallow. She ate breakfast, but lunch and dinner have been hell. I don't know what to do. I know she needs to eat, but I don't know if I should discipline her or what.... This is my first child so I am totally baffled by this new "habit". What do I do to get her to eat?

It's entirely possible she has a sore throat. Often illnesses seem better in the morning and get worse through the day. I'd take her to the doctor.

She may have a sore throat. Lots of times, people feel better when they get up in the morning even though they are still quite ill. I would take her to the doctor.

She might just have a sore throat. If so, she was hungry but then swallowing hurt.

Could be that she is just missing Daddy very much. Can she talk to him on the phone, computer etc. It might help her.

I agree it sounds like she might have a sore throat. I would give her soft foods and see if that helps any. The most important thing is she gets alot of liquids. If not she could get dehydrated. If you have popcicles in the house. Give her one of them. If she has a sore throat. They should make it feel better.
