Where to start?

I have an 8 year-old son who is gifted but who also has some behavioral issues in school. In 1st grade they wanted him to repeat the grade because of poor handwriting and behavior problems. We knew that he was bright and holding him back was not going to be the answer. He was tested at that time and moved to the 2nd grade after the tests confirmed our assumptions. Now in 3rd grade he is part of a pull-out gifted program but I'm not sure that it's going to be enough. We are having all sorts of problems from refusing to do assignments, scribbling on the pages, fighting... and the list goes on.

I know we need to start doing more for him but I'm not sure where to start. Any advice is appreciated!

The poor handwriting issue makes me think that the thing I did with my son might help.  It is a neuro-psychology program that successfully addressed a whole constellation of problems, including motor skills and behavior issues.  It cost $90 for the evaluation 10 years ago, and $2700  and an hour a day for the treatment.  It is called Learning Tecnics.  I have a friend whose boy had the evaluation, and they told her that they couldn't help him, his problems were not the ones that they could treat.
