I am a single working mom with an 8 year old gifted son. We have a stable life and I have been as conscientious as possible about his education. Mostly he has been a very typical gifted kid. Just recently though he is showing signs of high anxiety and extreme insecurity. Is this normal for a gifted kid? Do you know any resources that might shed some light on this?

We found out our daughter was gifted in 1st grade. The school sent home a letter stating that she had scored high on an overall assessment test and has teacher recommendation to be tested for the gifted program. She went through a test with the counselor and then the gifted teacher and scored really high on both tests. Thats how we found out.

I will tell you that they do not display a high level of intelligence. The teacher she had in kdg was pushing to have her tested for ADD. I hear they all are different and I now have two and they are so very different. My daughter is very absent minded while my son pays attention to every tiny detail.

FYI: Thomas Edison's principal told his mother that they could no longer school him as he was unable to learn.
