Religion

Hello!

Once again this issue has come up in my life.
I am agnostic, and my sons patenal parent is a born again evangelical christian.

I have not banned him from informing our son of religion, I have only asked to keep it to a low level...because I don't agree with religion...especially how he practices it!

I am aware that our son needs to make his own decisions on his spirituality (he is 9 now, 1 1/2 when we divorced).
Yet my ex (husband) insists on manipulating & judging our son to guilt him into going along with his beliefs.

I have repeatedly put my foot down on this behavior. My son is scared to tell his dad how he really feels.
I am not opposed to agreeing to take my son to a more agreeable church myself.

Has anyone dealt with this issue?
Do you have any advice?

My ex-husband is Agnostic. He discussed his beliefs and reasoning with our children. I took our children to a number of churches in order for them to be able to make an informed decision as adults. Now adults, my son is Agnostic and my daughter is not. They both appreciate being taught about a varitey of beliefs. Explain to your son that his father's beliefs are just that, beliefs, and help your son so he cannot be manipulated by his father. Ask your ex to respect and not judge his 9 1/2 y/o son. If your ex is unwilling to do so, then you will face the task of explaining your ex's possible agenda to your son.
