Parents, Families, and Exceptionality

Hello everyone my name is Amanda and I am a student at Southeastern Illinois College. I am taking a class called Students with Special Needs and as part of my assignment, I am required to post a message and see if parents will respond with some of the questions I am going to ask. There are so many children with a disability in today's society and taking classes like this one can definitely educate us teachers and parents in general when it comes to their needs, explanations, causes, history, families, and what we can do to help. If you don't mind, I would like to ask you a couple of questions and I hope to hear from someone soon.

1. How did your family deal with developmental changes as your child grew? Was the transition easy, stressful, a lot of work, and how do you think your child felt with the changes? If siblings were involved, how did they react? Did you struggle making routines, spending quality time, or having trouble locating resources?

2. When you and your family found out your child was born with a disability, did you go through any of the phases of guilt, shock, denial, anger, shame, or were you accepting and easily adjusted to the life changing situation?

I appreciate your time! Thanks, Amanda
