My daughter is now 3 years old and she is just now starting to say three to four word sentences. She has a hard time telling me what she wants and gets frustrated, She often throws fits and throws herself around if I don't figure it out the first time. I know she understands me because she does what I ask her too do, but I am very concerned for her. She has always developed slower than the other kids. She walked after she was a year and didn't start really talking to me until  she was 2. She still even now baby talks. Is this normal? Now I'm worried because I want to get her started in preschool in the fall and she still hasn't toilet trained. She often tells me after she potties in her pants. Is she going to be behind the other children because she can't go to school. They won't except her unless she is fully trained. Also, could these be symptoms of a learning disorder? It does run on both sides of the family during youth.

I really do need help on this subject please reply

first time mommy

Hi there,
I totally know where you're coming from since I've been there w/ my son. My son started walking around 16 mos and only had a 5-10 wrd vocabulary by 2 yrs. His pediatrician said at 2 he shld be putting wrds together and told me he was delayed. She suggested early intervention. From there, my son went into a special ed. pre-k where he got speech therapy, OT and PT. He is now almost 5 and is doing a lot better. I wld suggest talking to your child's pediatrician. Some drs. are more layed back than others. Also, for your own peace of mind, have your child evaluated by a developmental pediatrician through your local hospital. Since you said this runs in both sides of your family, I wldn't wait. The earlier you get your child help, the better the outcome. This may just be a delay, or it cld be something else. I understand how this can be both frustrating for you and your child, but there is help out there. Please write if you have any further questions. Good luck!

Is there a Child Development Watch organization in your area? They could be very helpful in letting you know if you should be concerned. All chlidren develop differently. My son was somewhat slow and then caught up in Kindergarten and now has a masters degree. Don't be too alarmed, just get it checked out to be on the safe side.
