Just was wondering if anyone has had any problems with their children taking Singulair. Have you noticed any mood/behavior changes in your children while they are taking Singulair?

My daughter didn't start taking Singulair until she was an adult, up and out of the house. Don't have any input, sorry.

From my years of working with children with ADHD and Autism, I have seen many negative med interactions. If you are seeing a negative effect from meds in your child, I would suggest changing or discontinuation of the suspect med after consultation with the child's doctor. Many doctors will state there is no possible negative interaction but you are the one who knows your child best. After the med is out of your child's system, if the mood/behavior changes stop, then you will know for sure that is was that med causing the changes. You need to weigh the benefits of the med or trying a different med against the negative side effects for your child.

My son took it for allergies for a few years, no problems. After seeing your post I did some reading on possible side effects and depression is one. If you are seeing a change in mood/ behavior you should contact your childs doctor right away.

Thanks for your suggestions. We've been dealing with our oldest son's behavior at home and just wondered if any of his meds could be making him moody. He isn't depressed or showing signs or anxiety or anything. He is on the Autism spectrum with NLD and he is ADHD as well. We did ask our psychologist and he said he knew of a boy with Asperger's that wasn't as stable mood wise when he was taking Singulair. So we called our dr. and had a med change to Allegra, which I haven't started my son on yet. We took him off the Singulair trying to see if there is a change.

Dad - We did read the horrible reports people said about this med being related to depression and sort.... scary.

Apparently Singulair crosses over from blood to brain and Allegra doesn't.

Thanks again for your thoughts everyone.
