I recently developed mastitis while breastfeeding my 2 month old. Anyone go through something similar? Did you continue breastfeeding thru it?
Yep, I did. Don't remember if I was given anything for pain, it was 20 years ago, but I do remember the pain! And the depression--I was not sad, I was mad.
I also developed mastitis while breastfeeeding both of my children. 30 years ago I was told to stop but continued very successfully. With my daughter 25 years later, I was supported through 2 infections, one so severe it required minor surgery to treat a severly impacted milk duct. My milk came right back and we continued to breastfeed for 2 more years. It was painful but the benefits to the baby of being committed to continue made it well worth sticking it out. Good luck! You can do it and continue to have the joy and closeness with your baby.
