Are everyday household cleaning products having a harmful affect on your families health?

Hello,
I am new to message boards, but thought this would be a good way to get some feedback. I am a stay-at-home mom of 3 young boys. I've been hearing a lot lately about the harmful affects everyday cleaning products can have on the health of you and your family. It scares me to think that I've been using products that can have a detrimental affect on the health of my children. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Very concerned,

I don't use spray-on cleaning products, I think the aerosolization is unnecessary. I do use 10% bleach solution to dis-infect. I use plain water to clean mirrors. I use ammonia solution for greasy surfaces. I mop using a teaspoon of dish-soap in a bucket of water. I do this mostly because I am too cheap to pay for cleaning "solutions" which are mostly just soapy water.
I'm not concerned about health consequences, just financial ones.

I agree, aerosols are unnecessary. I was a big believer in bleach and ammonia for cleaning and disinfecting but am now very concerned about the affects, by using just a little bit, can have on my health, but most importantly, the health of my kids. I've heard that there are safer alternatives out there, but still feel skeptical that even they may contain one form of chemical or another that could be harmful.

I do have some concerns as well. I was told by one lady who had had breast cancer to spray into your rag or towel you are cleaning with, so that you aren't breathing it in as much. Also I have been trying to use the Green Works by Clorox. They are 99.84% natural. I usually use a little ammonia in my hot water to clean my floors up. I also use Clorox wipes for quick jobs. Baking soda and vinegar are good cleaners as well. I use lemon juice in hot water to help clean out the microwave.
I do use bleach in my toilets and sometimes in my whites.

Good luck.

I have heard a lot about the dangers of chemicals, not only to children but pets as well. I use a line of products called Ecosense. There are absolutely no harsh chemicals, and I get them for a fraction of the store's prices for "natural" or "green" products. They are amazing and clean as well as products with harsh chemicals!
