My daughter and I play the dots and boxes game and she loves it! It's great for young children who don't know how to read yet.

My sister and I used to play squiggle or MASH. Haha, and play WAR with a deck of cards on really long trips since 1 game takes forever!

the other thing my kids love are toy cars (barbie and hotwheels - depending on gender) they run them around the windows or race each other on the seat - new site - hotrodplates.com allows them to create their own tags for the cars and it is CHEAP

As kids, we used to love Mad Libs activity books for the car ride. They kept us pretty busy, and we used to crack up at the silly things we'd come up w/.
