How to prepare to be parents?

My boyfriend and I are expecting a child this summer.  We have lived together for 5 years, but I’m concerned about our ability to cooperate as parents.  We talked about disciplining methods at length, but I want to make sure we are on the same page – what else should we discuss in depth?

Congraulations on you baby!

You are doing a great thing already. It helps to talk about it before hand. Just remember to keep it open afterward.

I have found that we decicus it it front of our daughters. One is 3 so she knows that Daddy and I are dong the same thing and she cannot go to the other. She has tryed. So we tell each other if we said she can not have something or do something. We tell her we are going to talk to the other about it and talk about it in front of her.

Not to give you any advise. It was just something i found worked really well. Just for experince. My parents never did that so we know we could go to the other and get away with things. But it also did start a lot of fights. Now my Husbands family was the other way around and he said he would ask one and then they would discuse it.

sorry for all the rambling. Hope any of this helps and makes sense.

I would suggest talking a lot about labor and delivery and post partem recovery. You're going to need a lot of support through that, and it's good to know what to expect. Also talk about post partem depression because he's going to be the one to see it. I had post partem depression, but I was in denial. But my husband kind of knew, he just didn't know what to do about it. I wish we'd talked about it before.

There are also issues about the baby, like if you're going to breastfeed, whether or not to circumsice (if it's a boy) and discuss any medical issues that may be genetic.

The biggest issue that my husband and i had was who was going to sacrafice their time .And of course it was me .when it was time for me to go back to work i had to sacrafice my income  my employer was not sympthetic when  i needed to leave because my child was sick .My husband and i talked it over and decided that it would be best if i could stay home until my son was school age  so now i home school my son and he is as bright as the sun .just thought I would share that with you good luck             from happy
