Discussion Title: Do violent video games impact kids?
Created by: Mitch Created on: Tue, 04/24/2007 - 9:01am. I'm a little worried about my two-year-old nephew. Whenever my brother and I hang out, we like to play video games. My brother doesn't have any problem with his son being in the room when we're playing violent, gory games like Gears of War. It makes me uncomfortable. Isn't my nephew too young to be exposed to stuff like this?

I think that a child can be exposed to those games and movies when they are able to explain what the difference is between seeing it on TV and the act of it really happening

I think violent games can certainly impact kids in some ways. For one, they can be frightening to very young kids. For older kids, I believe they can make them more aggressive. However, for someone to become seriously violent to the extreme of hurting or killing another person, I believe there's more contributing to this person's actions. Many people can sit through a violent movie or play violent games, but still not react violently. I'm not saying that a violent game can't put thoughts or ideas into someone's head, but for a person to act on this violence, I believe that person has to have some kind of underlying psychological problem. That's my opinion.
