Discussion Title: Surgery
Created by: elisar Created on: Mon, 04/23/2007 - 1:36pm. My daughter is having surgery in a few days and it's a scary time for us. I have never cared for a sick person like this. She'll be coming home after the surgery but I am nervous about being responsible for someone who is frail. She's in her early 20s, so I don't have to baby her. Anyone have any suggestions?

Elisar, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter! I hope the surgery goes well. It sounds like a very scary thing to have to go through. Sometimes things are hardest in the anticipation of them, so I hope that is the case for you. Think about all that you have gone through as a mother - I am sure you will get through this. I bet your daughter wouldn't mind being a little babied even though she is in her 20s. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Hi Elisar
Gosh, I am sure that it is really hard to think about a child, even a grown one, going through surgery.
You will do great taking care of her, just be the wonderful mom you are!! That is all she will want, the doctors will take care of the rest.

Well, the surgery is over and everything went fine. You were right about her not minding being babied even tho she is 23. I guess I wouldn't mind a little babying myself!!! :)
It is so hard to have a sick kid - I can't imagine how people do this with a really young kid. It must be agony. It's amazing how you find the strength to keep going.... I guess that's what everyone does.
